Clonex is a hormonal gel for rooting plants and cuttings. It is used by professionals and hobbyists all over the world. Its formula is a high performance form of hormones, vitamins and minerals. It remains in contact around the stem, sealing the cut tissue and delivering the necessary hormones and vitamins.

How to use Klonex for cloning with cuttings?

Successful cloning depends on three elements - the plant from which the material is taken, the cloning technique and the environment in which the cutting is developed.

1. Planting material for branching with cuttings

• Choose the healthiest plants to take material from. The plant that will grow from the cutting is an ideal counterpart to the mother. Take cuttings from the plants you want the cuttings to become.
• From the mother plant, select twigs with at least two or three pairs of leaves. You can spray them with Clonex Mist a week or two before taking the cuttings.

2. Cloning technique

• Use sterile instruments that are free of viruses and viroids. Although alcohol can kill the viruses that would harm your cuttings, it does NOT kill the viroids, which can also be the cause of failed cloning.
• An effective cloning sterilization product that we all have is bleach - soak the tools in a 10% bleach solution for at least 30 seconds to sterilize them.
• First cutting cut: Cut the chosen branch just above the internode so that the mother grows proportionately. The goal is to take the branch away from the mother in a way that will ensure its balanced development.
• Cut off all but the strongest upper leaves near the stem.
• Second cut: Here the goal is now to form a cutting that has the greatest chance of successful propagation. Make a 45-degree cut just below the lowest branch.
• Immediately after, dip at least 1.5 cm from the end of the cutting into Klonex . The rooting hormone will seal the cut tissue and provide the best chance for root formation.

3. Medium for rooting the cuttings

• For best results place the cuttings in Root Riot - an ideal rooting medium. You can also use Jiffy coconut pellets .
• Spray with Clonex Mist and place the cuttings in a propagator at a temperature between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius.
• It's a good idea to open the propagator once a day to let in fresh air and monitor the humidity of the rooting medium (in this case Root Riot cubes or Jiffy pellets).
• After 3 days, spray the cuttings again with Clonex Mist .
• Watch for the formation of roots and when they are ready, transplant into the substrate of your choice.
